Welcome from the APSIC President

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the forthcoming 5th International Congress of the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) in Melbourne, Australia from the 8th- 11th of November, 2011.

Outbreaks of emerging and novel infectious diseases in recent years have highlighted the importance of infection control in the Asia Pacific region and the need to strengthen our detecting and reporting systems, training of healthcare workers, investigations and outbreak control measures. Working together and sharing our experiences will improve capacity and enhance our preparedness for the future.

The APSIC Congress meeting offers a unique opportunity in the region bringing together renowned international and regional speakers to updating us on the latest scientific evidence in relation to emerging infections, surveillance strategies, antibiotic resistance, hospital associated infections and the implementation of evidence based quality improvement strategies.

The program will have something for everyone from the novice practitioners just starting out in Infection Control to the experienced Infection Control Practitioners, Infectious Diseases physicians and microbiologist. The program will also be of interest to Quality Improvement, Patient Safety and Risk Management professional, Healthcare Administrators, Critical Care Specialists, Physicians, Surgeons, Operating Theatre and Sterilisation and Disinfection professionals.

A social program highlighting the many and varied tourist attractions in Melbourne and Victoria will ensure an exciting event and I look forward to meeting you all in Melbourne in 2011.

Invitation from the Convenor

On behalf of the Congress Organising Committee, I am pleased to extend an invitation to our industry colleagues to attend the 5th International Congress of the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC 2011).

The Congress is proudly hosted by the Victorian Infection Control Professionals Association (VICPA) and will be held at the stunning new Melbourne Convention Centre, Melbourne, Australia, from 8-11 November 2011.

The visually striking Convention Centre offers an innovative environmental design and state-of-the-art facilities and operational features and provides the ideal location for the APSIC 2011 Congress. The centre is uniquely positioned right in the middle of Melbourne and within walking distance to Melbourne's famous arts, sporting, shopping and food precincts.

The Scientific Program Committee has created a stimulating and informative program, including keynote presentations, plenary streams, workshops and research papers presented by an impressive list of local and international speakers on topics relevant to all areas of infection prevention and control.

The Scientific Program will be complemented by an equally exciting social program, allowing delegates to network and catch up with colleagues and friends and at the same time enjoy a sample of Melbourne's vibrant culture, cuisine and entertainment.
